Join the Youth Gamelan! Session starts January 26 2013
The Spring 2013 session of the Youth Gamelan at Wesleyan University will start on Saturday, January 26. We meet from 10-11am in the World Music Hall, on Wyllys Avenue, Middletown, CT. Please see other posts here for more information about the group.
If you or your child is interested, please come to the first rehearsal on January 26. We meet weekly through early May, and will conclude the session with a short performance on the evening of Thursday, May 9.
All aged 7 to 17 are welcome to try the instruments on this first day, and join if they wish. For registration information, please contact the University Box Office at tel 860 685 3355 or email boxoffice@wesleyan.edu.
Fall 2012 session of Youth Gamelan starts Sat. Sept 15

Youth Gamelan at Wesleyan starts Jan 28
The Spring 2012 session of the Youth Gamelan at Wesleyan University begins Saturday, January 28. A gamelan is an orchestra of traditional metal gongs and xylophone instruments from Indonesia.
The Youth Gamelan is open to all children age 7 and up, with no prior music experience necessary. Rehearsals are held on Saturday mornings from 10-11am in the World Music Hall, Center for the Arts, Wesleyan University, located on Wyllys Avenue (off of High Street). Parents are welcome to stay and watch rehearsals. We will conclude the session with a performance on Thursday, May 3 at 7pm, together with Wesleyan student ensembles.
New members are welcome at this time, though space is limited and advance registration is recommended. There is a registration fee of $30, made payable to Wesleyan University, and the lessons and rehearsals are free. You may register at the first rehearsal, or with the University Box Office in Usdan Campus Center, tel. 860-685-3310, email: boxoffice@wesleyan.edu.

The group was founded in 2002 and is sponsored by the Center for the Arts at Wesleyan, and is a past recipient of support from the Middletown Commission on the Arts.

New & returning members are welcome! Youth Gamelan’s Fall session starts on Sat Sept 17
Greetings to all returning and new students. We’ll start the Fall 2011 session of the Youth Gamelan at Wesleyan on Saturday, September 17. As before, rehearsals are 10-11am in the World Music Hall on the campus of Wesleyan University. We meet every Saturday except during Thanksgiving, until December 3.
There will be a few spaces available for new students. Please invite family, friends, siblings, etc. to join. They may attend on the first day, to try the gamelan to see if they like it.

The Youth Gamelan at Wesleyan will conclude their Spring 2011 session with a performance at 7pm on Thursday, April 28, in the World Music Hall. The Wesleyan Beginner Gamelan and Javanese Dance classes are also on the program.
