We will conclude the semester with a performance on the evening of Thursday, April 23, together with Wesleyan student gamelan groups (free admission).

The group is open to all ages 7 and up, no prior musical experience is needed. Registration is required; please contact Kirsten Olson at the University Box Office, tel 860-685-3310, email kolson@wesleyan.edu. Call soon, since space is limited.

Kids may try playing the instruments on the first day, and then sign up if they would like to continue. There is a registration fee of $30 (with no other fees or expenses), which can be paid at the Jan 29 class. However, since space in the group is very limited, please call Kirsten to register before the first rehearsal. Thanks!

The Javanese Gamelan Orchestra is an essential accompaniment to puppet shows, dances, feasts and ceremonies in parts of Indonesia. Wesleyan University owns one of the finest sets of these beautiful instruments in the world. Housed in the World Music Hall, most of the Gamelan instruments are gong and metallaphone instruments made of bronze. The Fall 2010 session begins on Saturday, September 18th and will end with a performance for all on Thursday, December 9 at 7pm.

Rehearsals are held on Saturday mornings, from 10–11am in the World Music Hall, Center for the Arts, Wesleyan University, located on Wyllys Avenue (off of High Street).

There is a registration fee of $30, made payable to Wesleyan University, but the lessons and rehearsals are free.
